Earth Day

April 21st, 2007

Earth Day has become a day for people to reflect on the environment and do something positive to ensure a better place to live. Many groups have clean up crews pick up litter or host garage sales in an attempt to recycle materials.

While we're not doing the garage sale thing this weekend, we would like you to know about some of the environmentally friendly things we do here at Bee Hive Candles. Of course our candles are ecologically sound since they are all beeswax - no petroleum products here! We do other things as well though, such as using locally produced beeswax to eliminate the need for carbon dioxide emitting freight trucks.

An area that we believe saves a lot of landfill space is in our minimal use of packaging. Most often when people buy things there is packaging, usually plastic and occasionally excessive, that has to be discarded. We simply use a paper label and wrap the candles in Kraft paper to protect them during shipping, both of which can be recycled.

We also strive to keep our shipping eco-friendly. We reuse all of the packaging materials that we receive including boxes and fill. This is why you may get a box with blacked out spots and multicolored peanuts with your candles. When using new materials we stick to items made out of recycled materials. To go one step further we will soon be shipping with cornstarch peanuts - those are the ones that can be dissolved in water so they won't take any landfill space.

We believe that our candles are earth friendly and that the whole business should be too. Enjoy your Earth Day celebrations and when you get home light a beeswax candle and relax in the "green" light.
